She was Michelangelo (she loved orange and pizza) and I was Donatello (I valued his low-key intelligence and purple color choice).įast-forward twenty-some years, and I’ve grown up to be a multimedia journalist at a news publication. My sister and I bypassed the only female character, April, and opted to karate chop, yell, “Cowabunga!” and act as the anthropomorphic male reptiles in our gameplay. The latter game-inspired by the animated 80-90s cartoon of the same name-was the one we played with our neighbor’s action figures, on Super Nintendo, or at the school playground by embodying characters from the show.
